BOSTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Presents 2008 JAZZ FEST

Tickets for the 2008 Boston Pops JazzFest are on sale now featuring some of today’s hottest Jazz artists live from Symphony Hall, Boston! Performances are June 10-11, and June 21 and 22.

Featured artists this year include the The Dizzy Gillespie All Stars' Symphony Sessions, with James Moody, Slide hampton, Claudio Roditi, John Lee, Lewis Nash, and Roy Asaf. Along with the Afro-Cuban spirit of Arturo Sandoval, these artists carry the soul of jazz into a promising future.

The June 10 and 11 pair of performances showcases the great Cuban trumpeter and pianist Arturo Sandoval with guest conductor Jeff Tyzik. Arturo Sandoval is fluent in at least four musical languages. He can burn through an Afro-Cuban groove, tear up a bebop tune, soar over a Mozart concerto and sooth you with a luscious ballad; with equal power and grace.

On July 21 and 22, The Dizzy Gilespie All Stars' continue the master trumpet player's legacy, and carry the soul of jazz into a promising future. History has produced its share of great artists and great people—the late John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was both. As a performer, he left behind an incredible record of innovation and inspiration; as a composer, a broad repository of musical masterpieces; and as a man, a legion of friends, colleagues and compatriots who remember him with the same degree of love and esteem they reserve for his work.

After each JazzFest concert, hear the latest rising stars on the international jazz scene, presented by Berklee College of Music.

All performances start at 8pm except for the June 22 performance which starts at 7:30pm.
Prices are from $19 to $87. Tickets are available by calling SymphonyCharge at 888-266-1200 or online at www.bostonpops.org.

The GREEN ROOM
at Scullers Jazz Club

At Scullers, we like to hit the high notes early and in February 2008, the Green Room at Scullers Jazz Club opened with just that in mind. Much like the legendary jazz Scullers presents, the Green Room is a new restaurant concept that tips a hat to the classics, utilizing the creative and inspiring interpretations of our award winning Executive Chef Tony Frechette.

Formerly known as the Boathouse Grille, the restaurant renovation involved a complete floor-to-ceiling makeover including furniture, china, menus, lighting and décor. The renovation, conceptualized by Executive Chef Tony Frechette and General Manager Christian Coffin, was partially inspired by a menu makeover the Chef had hoped to unveil in the New Year.

“It’s hard to say what came first the menu ideas or the direction of the restaurants physical renovation,” adds Executive Chef Tony Frechette. “I wanted to create a unique contemporary twist on simple themes. It was wonderful to work with this synergy that emerged guiding both the direction of the menu and physical design simultaneously.” The Chef continues, “…the Dinner & Show package is such a big part of what we do here I knew it was essential to build on what so many people love and have come to expect but to take it to the next level.”

As the Chef alludes, finding inspiration in the Green Room doesn’t necessarily begin with a trip to the kitchen. The extensive renovation has completely transformed the room from a more traditional scene to a contemporary oasis. The room calls upon the natural beauty of the Charles River and the Boston Skyline that peer through the Green Room’s floor-to-ceiling windows. The décor, steeped in lush hues, embodies a warm and inviting welcome and the food and service culminate to exude an unpretentious & undeniably cool vibe.

“The new Green Room visualizes our mission: Smart. Relaxed. Welcoming. This is not your typical hotel restaurant. While unpretentious, it is stylish and inviting and fits in well with the overall feel of the property and Scullers. “It was an exciting team approach in developing this concept with ideas batted around between the culinary team, hotel management, our team members, guest feedback, the Club’s clientele and designers,” remarks Christian Coffin, General Manager of the Doubletree Guest Suites-Boston. “We are most fortunate to have supportive owners that have provided $18M in funding to upgrade the restaurant as well as the entire hotel over the last three years.”

The Green Room will carry on a long standing tradition started back in 1992 with Scullers highly-revered Dinner and Show package. The three course a la carte dinner will be served in the Green Room and available prior to every Scullers performance. The package includes complimentary parking in the hotel garage and preferred seating in the jazz club.

“This is an exciting time for us,” explains Dayla Arabella Santurri, Scullers General Manager. “The Dinner and Show package has truly become synonymous with what we do here at Scullers, providing our clientele a complete and intimate evening out on the town. The Green Room will not only enhance the appeal of our Dinner & Show package to returning guests but will certainly garner the attention of impassioned music and culinary enthusiasts everywhere.”
